That's a great question. I had only two items on my bucket list when I retired: live in a lighthouse for a year and write a book. The lighthouse gig didn't work out, so I decided to write a book about someone who did. The journey was fun and enjoyable, and Finnian's Key is out there for you to read. I hope you enjoy it.

I carry a small digital voice recorder with me to capture my thoughts whenever and wherever they appear. I never know when an idea will show itself and I will forget it by the time I get to my computer, so I try to be prepared. The idea for my first book came while I was in the bathroom, brushing my teeth. If its a good idea, it isn't difficult to be inspired to write.

I have three books in the hopper at various stages of completion. I hope to have one ready within the next year. More on that later.

Keep at it. Don't give up. It took me 73 years to publish my first book. It's a great feeling of accomplishment.

The freedom to create, to tell a story, to release those thoughts you've had spinning in your brain that need to be unshackled and put down on paper or written on your screen.

I don't have a cure-all remedy for those moments my mind is a blank slate. The best answer is twofold: either move on to something else and come back to your project later and try again; or write down whatever comes to mind, anything, until you feel that you've loosened up those knots and the creative juices begin to flow. I often run into these situations and one of those actions seems to work for me.
