Do it. Do not write to sell books. Write because you love it. Just because your work doesn't get picked up by a publisher doesn't mean it isn't good. It may just mean you are dealing with a publisher who cares more about popularity and the bottom line. So write. Do it for you.

For me, it was a dream since I was a 1st grader. That said, it's pretty cathartic to put my thoughts on paper and form them into words.

For me, there are two methods. Go on a run, or power through. It depends o the type of block. If my thoughts are there, but jumbled, I power through, write whatever is in my head and organize later. If I am drawing a blank, I go on a run. I tend to have my best thoughts on my runs.
