The last scene of the first chapter was a dream I had. I wrote it out for my sister to see because it was so vivid. The majority of that scene is exactly how I dreamed it from the (no spoiler) Oculus changing colors to the dark hallway in the basement.
The rest of the story is an homage to Final Fantasy games I played at the time, IX and X. Some of the prominent themes and nuances in the story blossomed from tropes in those two games.
