L.A. Smith I am finally getting to Babel, by R.F. Kuang. It's loaded on my Kindle and ready to go for my long walk through Spain on the Camino this spring. I am also currently reading The Sun Also Rises, by Ernest Hemingway, as a classic book set in Spain. Dark Frontier by Matthew Harffy is also on my list - I'll be interviewing him about his new book set in the American West on my blog later this summer/fall.
L.A. Smith Write, write and write some more. Don't think you have to have the whole story figured out before you start. I also advise starting with short stories, that will give you practice in starting (and finishing!) a whole story arc. Find a knowledgeable community that can give you feedback. And submit your stories to publications. It's terrifying, but a necessary step!
L.A. Smith I'm working on Book 2 of The Traveller's Path, currently called Bound.
L.A. Smith Two seeds planted the idea for this book. One was reading Thomas Cahill's How the Irish Saved Civilization. The story of the monks who lived in obscurity at the edge of the known world and preserved the great works of the ancients, bringing them back to the Continent during their missionary journeys after Rome's collapse was a fascinating one. Seeing the Lindisfarne Gospels in person at the British Library in London was another. The lives of these monks and the time they lived gave me the inspiration to set a novel in that time. And seeing as I love fantasy as well as history, I couldn't resist adding a modern age character into the mix, as well as the Fey!
