This is a B-movie horror kind of book. The kind of movie you discovered as a kid on late-night TV when you really shouldn't be watching. It's part homage as well, to all my favourite books and movies and graphic novels in the genre. Fans of Aliens and The Thing will likely enjoy this. If you liked Event Horizon, Doom, and Dog Soldiers, you'll get a kick out of this too.

It is also part response. I was seeing a lot of complaints from readers of horror that lots of books claim to be scary, but aren't. So I thought, okay, I accept that challenge. So this book is for those who are looking for high-tension, edge of the seat horror.

It goes like this ...

A struggling haulage crew and a squad of delinquent marines find themselves hurled together in a gruelling fight for survival beneath the ice.

Captain Joe Bannerman has finally scored a big job that would mean the good life for him and his crew: a long-haul trip to drop a bunch of marines on the edge of the charted territories for re-education training. The only drawback is their employer – the Inter Planetary Commission. A ruthless totalitarian corporate government.

But not long after their arrival, and failure to raise Aquilo Base on comms, all souls aboard the Fritzwicky suddenly find themselves stranded on a frozen world with no other choice but to delve into the ominously silent facility. And what should have been a routine passenger drop quickly takes a hideously twisted and disturbing turn.

M F Alfrey Two ways:
One - I stop trying to write and I read. So I read on the topic I'm writing and read other authors in the genre too. That usually helps.

Two - I simply rest the project and hop onto another one. Sometimes while I'm on a different project it will free up the flow issues I was having on the one that's resting.
M F Alfrey Being read. Even if you only reach a few people.
M F Alfrey I tend to have a few pots on the hob ... so right now simmering away is a DUNGEON PUNK adventure mystery (title TBA); MAY CONTAIN SPACE PIRATES VOL2 is in the developmental editing stage; there's a humorous HIGH FANTASY adventure (title TBA) in the works; a TRIBAL FANTASY adventure (title TBA); and maybe (just maybe) another book set in the SILENTIUM horror universe.
M F Alfrey I'm a world builder, so I start there in terms of ideas. After that, it's good old-fashioned scheduling. I schedule myself time to write, otherwise it won't get done. I tend to commit to 10 minutes, so even on a bad day, I get that much done at least. Usually though, I'll write for hours once I get in the flow.
