Inspiration, for me, can come from anything from seeing an image on Pinterest to exploring while on vacation. I tend to see scenes as film clips, and half the time am figuring out how to connect one clip to another.

Don't give up. Don't give up reading, as it's a fantastic way to learn writing skills. Don't give up writing, for obvious reasons! Don't give up pursuing publication, because all it takes is one agent. Don't give up on your calling, because you WILL get there.
