I think the mystery of my ancestry would make an interesting book. My father came from Holland and lived on a farm in Minnesota when he was a child, and my mother was English and her ancestor was William Bradford who was on the Mayflower.

One thing I've learned is that there is a misconception that you have to wait for the 'muse' to hit you to write. It's not true. Writing is hard work, and you simply have to sit down and do it. It won't be perfect the first time, but like any other form of art, you work on it until it is perfected.

The greatest thing by far is knowing when you sell a book that someone is going to be enjoying what you've written. It's like being the old storyteller of the village and seeing the faces of the children as you spin a tale for them by the light of the campfire.

Just sit down and start writing. The hardest part is the fear that you don't know enough grammar or have the writing skills to do it, but once you start, you'll find that you learn as you practice and it won't be long before you are writing well.

I love writing, and most of my inspiration comes from reading great authors and wanting to join them in creating stories. There's nothing as fun as creating your own world, filling it with fun characters and then sharing it with others so they can enjoy it too.

My most recent book was my children's picture book Moogy and the Peach Tree Dragon. I got the idea while reading fantasy stories and children's books to my own children.

I'd go to the Shire in the Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien and to the inn of the Prancing Pony. There I'd hoist a beer or two with Bilbo or Frodo and talk to them about their adventures.

Jennifer realized she'd run out of gas in the middle of the cornfield and had no idea where she was or where to go for help. She looked in the mirror and realized with terror the scarecrow was still following her, as hope drained out of her like someone had opened a spigot.

I'm looking forward to reading the latest Stephen King novel Gwendy's Final Task, as well as the book Lincoln Raw, an autobiographical fiction novel by D.L. Fowler.
