Michael L. Ross Definitely I would go to Middle Earth. I would love to meet Aragorn, and Sam. I'd see if there were any Orcs left to skewer (love fencing). And whatever happened to Shadowfax? I'd love to meet him as well.
Michael L. Ross I read Michael Blake's Dancing With Wolves, and Holy Road, because of their relevance to what I'm writing in my WIP. I'm reading What Girls are Good For - Nelly Bly at the suggestion of a friend.
Michael L. Ross For me, writer's block usually is just that I'm stuck in some way on my current work in progress. It doesn't mean that I can't write - just that I can't write in that work right now. I go write on another project and come back to the main work in progress. I get input from my critique group. Usually, by the time I come back, I have it figured out.
Michael L. Ross Satisfaction when others enjoy your work. Being able to keep your own schedule, at least to a degree.
Michael L. Ross Find something that inspires you, that you're passionate about. Go to a few writer's conferences, learn about the industry. Get a mentor or a critique group if you can. Then write. Don't assume that finishing a draft means you are anywhere near ready to publish. Revise, revise, revise. Learn how to find an agent, but learn about self-pub as well. Even if you go traditional, you'll still be responsible for a lot of the marketing for your book.
Michael L. Ross I'm working on book 2 of the Across the Great Divide Series, and an unconnected novel about a Civil War nurse.
Michael L. Ross I've always loved to write. I used to make up short stories just for fun. I also love history - history is just people's stories. The current divided state of our country, the rancor in many families, the threats of states seceding, and many other parallels made me see the similarities between our present, and our country's past in Civil War times.
Michael L. Ross I wanted to write about the founding of my hometown, Lubbock, Texas. I knew William Dorsey Crump's granddaughter Katy when I was a child. As I looked into his story, I just became fascinated with his varied life.
