Marian Marion Kebab My writing is heavily character based. If I'm blocked with one or a bunch of characters, I write about someone else until I can get back on track. I don't think it's good to do nothing. I'd rather write and throw it away later, than to just sit & marinate.
Marian Marion Kebab I "write" and I enjoy it. To me "writer" implies a level of commercial success, because others are basically agreeing that you're a "writer", too.

I'll let you know when that happens.
Marian Marion Kebab Write. Duh.

I struggled for years thinking I had to make an outline, like a term paper, from start to end. I could never come up with something solid. I "thought" about it ... then just abandoned it, many times.

I just decided to start writing with only the first one or two chapters in mind. I rewrote it many times. I wrote the whole book then ripped out chapters and rewrote, and rewrote. My editor was absolutely critical to the process.

It took the first book for me to learn "how" to write in my style. What's that? I describe characters personalities & backgrounds, then just sit back and watch what they do. This means their profiles have to be interesting in the first place.
Marian Marion Kebab Book-3, of course. Everybody gets a year older. I have minor plotlines in mind, but still need the major one(s).
Marian Marion Kebab I don't feel like I'm making things up. I feel like I'm just observing other people living their lives. I write because I'm anxious to see what they get up to.
Marian Marion Kebab It's a continuation of book-1. Cleopatra's a year older, and now wrestling with the international diplomacy and a bankrupt economy. All the familiar characters plus a set of new ones.
