Dan Albert Nope! I should have been more precise to say that the highway network planned as part of I-95 included a leg that cut through the heart of Camden. The highway is now I-676/Vine Expressway.

The point I was making draws from the work of Raymond Mohl and others who have documented how the combined forces of highway building and federal housing policy disrupted African-American, immigrant, and poor neighborhood. I have not chased Mohl's sources all the way to ground but am now inspired to do so. Here's a quote from the Federal Highway Administration Site that draws on Mohl.
"In Camden, New Jersey, I-95 bisected low-income neighborhoods, displacing 1,093 minority families (out of a total of 1,289 families), while only about 100 low-incoming housing units were built at the same time "with the usual consequences." "

Dan Albert I switch modes from computer to legal pad.
Dan Albert Hearing how people respond to what I've written. That, and the commute.
Dan Albert I wanted to write a book about the automobile that would appeal even to people who are not necessarily interested in cars. Also, I became fascinated with the idea of "the end of the automobile" with the advent of ride sharing, viable electric cars, and autonomous vehicles.
