I am a fan of the old-fashioned "powering through" approach. I look at writer's block the same way as I would look at inhibitions in any other profession. The work still needs to get done, so take a break, go for a walk, grab a cup of coffee, or whatever it is that helps you clear your mind for a little while - and then write. Just write.

In my opinion, it is the ultimate playground for the creative mind. You aren't limited by someone else's story or characters. The world is completely yours, and you may do with it as you please.

There is nothing like a cool fall day or a nice heavy snow that gets me fired up to write. It happens every year, but the natural change of my own world is what gets me inspired to craft new ones, more than anything else.

One night I had a dream. It had nothing to do with my book, but it was one of those dreams that stuck with me, even after I woke up. It took me a minute to suss out reality and dream, and for the rest of the day my mind kept returning to the dream. I think we are all familiar with that sensation. Whether a nightmare or glorious dream, we have all been caught in that haze between the world around us and the world imagined. We have all had dreams that have somehow managed to climb out of our subconscious and dance around in our consciousness. That happened to me one night, and that is what got the ball rolling for chapter one of my book, and the rest just kind of fell into place.
