My second novel, Stork Bite, is expected to release November 30, 2020. Stork Bite is Southern historical fiction. I'm thrilled to share these characters and their stories with readers. Here's a little bit about the book:
From the novel: “Everything must be reconciled eventually.”
Caddo Parish, 1913. On an October morning, a Klansman confronts seventeen-year-old David Walker at a hidden oxbow lake where he has gone to hunt. David accidentally kills the man and hides the crime. His determination to protect his family from reprisal drives him far from home and into manhood.
Shreveport, 1927. Cargie (rhymes with Margie) Barre and Mae Compton are two vastly different young women, but both are defying convention to reach for their dreams. The men in Cargie’s and Mae’s lives help and hinder them in more ways than one. After years in hiding, David Walker finally resurfaces, and we discover the past is never as far from the present as it seems.

Hi Shani! Thank you for the question. There isn't much similarity between Cami's personality and mine, I'm afraid. I wrote her braver and way more reckless than I am, and I admire those qualities in her. I believe Cami is more self-absorbed than I am (at least I hope she is!)
I will tell you something we shared, though. There's a scene in the first chapter when Cami sees her reflection in a vacant kiosk and has this moment, a moment she's had many times before, when she wonders why she's on the planet because she feels so disconnected from everyone. I drew that moment from personal experience. I used to feel disconnected like that. Here's the strange thing that happened: After I wrote Cami, I didn't feel that way anymore. It was as if I wrote those feelings out of me and into her, as if she were a scapegoat. I wrote the first manuscript for this novel twenty years ago. I think I needed to write it when I did, even though it wasn't published until now.
Thank you again, Shani!

Wow, I'm really surprised that you and Cami don't share many similarities because you wrote her in such detail and in such realistic ways that I thought she took after your own personality. You really brought her to life! You are such a master at convincing others through your descriptive writing.
Yes, I remember that scene very vividly because that question is a question that burns upon my soul as well. It's wonderful that you were able to incorporate a moment from your real life into her story. Also, it's fascinating how your feeling of disconnectedness disappeared after you wrote Cami. It sounds like this book was divinely guided and an important piece of your life path. It stuck with you for 20 years afterall.
On that note, I can't believe you wrote the first manuscript 20 years ago! You are just a natural born writer. You wrote like a seasoned pro already. It's been a pleasure reading your work and I hope you come out with more books. You were meant to write Lisa! ...more

The unexpected opportunities that come with being published. I had a wonderful opportunity to share advance copies of ALL IN with women incarcerated in Texas prisons through a non-profit called Bookmates4inmates. You won't find their reviews of the book on social media, but their feedback thus far has been amazing. Insightful and thoughtful. Their criticisms are honest, and so is their praise. I posted a few excerpts of reviews on Instagram and Facebook. Links to social media are on my author website at www.lksimonds.com. Here's a link to a brief YouTube video about ALL In and Bookmates4inmates: https://youtu.be/NJ63dBwUBH0

(view spoiler)[Hi Shani! Thank you for the question. My inspiration for this climactic scene was my own experience in the presence of God during worship, alone and in the company of other Christians. I became a Christian in the mid-1970's during an American revival called the Charismatic Movement. I've often been in meetings where God's presence is so tangible, so powerful, as described in the scene. This is common at Christ for the Nations too, where I was a student. So, this type of experience has always been a normal part of being a Christian for me. People are often healed - physically or emotionally - during times in the Lord's presence. Unfortunately, meetings of this sort are sometimes video-recorded, and they look hokey, even to me. I wrote the scene as I did to show that something very real can be going on inside a person during an event that doesn't seem real at all. I wrote it as I did to show that Jesus has not changed since the days when He worked miracles. He's the same, yesterday, today, forever. Again, thank you so much for asking! (hide spoiler)]

Wow, what a beautiful answer Lisa! I'm a firm believer of miracles and thought that scene was just incredible. It's like I was in the same room because the details were so vivid. Therefore, I had to ask. But I'm sorry, I just realized that my question may contain a spoiler. Would you like me to delete this question and ask it again with the spoiler box checked?

Oh good. There was another question I wanted to ask you but it's slipped my mind at the moment. I will ask it when it comes back to me.
