Layne Ihde I lived with a cat about eight years ago named Pippin. He was always getting into trouble. He would come when I called just like a dog. I loved him. I thought," What if I wrote about him as a seven year old anthropomorphized child?" So I did!
Layne Ihde Inspiration can come from anywhere, movies, music, books, even a shape or color of something I see in passing that conjures something within my mind.
Layne Ihde I'm always percolating story ideas. Right now I have a science fiction story I'm hashing out about a young girl that has been on a "generation ship" her entire life, but they have found a habitable planet and are now settling there. I'm also working on the last third of a fantasy novel set on the fictitious world of Mira.
Layne Ihde Write. Use resources such as authors publish .com and find targeted things to write about. Find writers "doing it" that mentor you. Grab coffee. Get involved online in writers groups. Email people, ask questions. Submit. Write. Repeat.
Layne Ihde Freedom. It's just you and your ideas. They can go anywhere. That can also be the worst part if you need direction and focus!
Layne Ihde I don't force it. If it's not happening, it's just counterproductive to sit there. I go do something else and circle back later or the next day.
