R.D. Dikstra The first Tigeropolis book was inspired by my first ever sighting of a tiger in the wild. My books are aimed at children aged 7-11, so I get a good few invitations to schools to talk about tigers, conservation and writing.

Going into schools is a real privilege and great fun, but the children ask lots of difficult questions ... including, inevitably..."'what's your next book about?" - so consentrates the mind and quite helpful to make me think (and test out the odd idea).
R.D. Dikstra Actually I'm just finishing an Activity Book based on the the characters from the Tigeropolis series. In part that's because it's fun, in part because I was interested in the process. It's going to be published in time for International Tiger Day on 29th July, so it needs to be off to the printers soon.
After that I want to start the 4th Tigeropolis book.
R.D. Dikstra I suppose it's simple really. Don't give up. I think lots of us have ideas, talent, and skill, but in the end it does come down to actually getting on and doing it.
R.D. Dikstra I find that going for a long walk is a good way of clearing the mind. I usually have a scrap piece of paper and a pencil in my pocket and often as I walk along, admiring the river ( I live close to the Thames) or the wildlife, ideas can pop into my mind. I scribble them down and, occasionally they are useful enough to get me going again when I return home.
R.D. Dikstra The Tigeropolis series is a fun series for Middle Grade readers about a family of vegetarian tigers who run their own wild tiger reserve in the foothills of the Himalayas. It was informed by my long-term involvement in conservation. A key issue in India is how local villagers co-exist with wild animals such as tigers. I first visited wild tiger reserves as part of a team investigating the situation. The books were inspired by my first every sighting of a tiger in the wild.
