Don't give up. Find a good team of editors - yes a team for the different styles of edits. Learn to take criticism. Figure out your genre and your market early on. Make it a habit and don't let others distract you during writing time.

I don't suffer writer's block often. When it strikes, I go for a long walk or a swim. I listen to podcasts and hope they spark an idea. Sometimes I put aside the part that's causing me to be stuck and work on something else until the solution comes.
