The inspiration for PLEASE DISAPPEAR came out of fear. My wife had called and asked me to pick her up from a mall. She didn’t drive back then and had been shopping all day. It was Sunday evening and I was watching football when I got a call from her. I asked if she could share a ride instead. She didn’t mind, and we finished our call pleasantly. But as soon as I hung up the phone, I felt tremendous guilt. This was during the early days of ride sharing and I hadn’t been fully sold on the idea yet.
Nevertheless, I had suggested that she share a ride. What would I have done if something happened to her? Was football more important than my wife? How would I live with myself if she never came home? That and hundred other unsavory thoughts snarled me.
In the ten minutes that it took her to get home, I had already seen a nightmare. The seed for this novel was sown that day.
