Mike Burrell Thank you, Robin.
Mike Burrell Living inside someone else's head for a few hours every day.
Mike Burrell I've either never had writer's block or I always have writer's block. When someone tells me he's blocked, I always ask if that means he can't write at all or he's just hit a patch where he can't write very well. I suffer the latter all the time. When a basketball players always hit a patch when their jump shots just won't go down. They just keep on shooting till they shoot their way out of it. I just keep on writing.
Mike Burrell People say, "read, read, read and write, write, write." I can't come up with any better advice than that. Maybe go to a good workshop like Tinker Mountain and buy yourself a copy of Francine Prose's Reading Like a Writer.
Mike Burrell Just had a blog post turn into a short story. I'm letting that steep. After a couple of weeks I'll turn on my critic and read it again. Then I'll start revising.
Mike Burrell If I waited for inspiration I would never get anything written. I sit down and crank out at least 500 words whether they're any good or not.
Mike Burrell The idea for my novel came from an incident back in 1977 when I took a woman home from a party and found a creepy shrine to Elvis in the middle of her living room. I talk about it in my blog.
