However, the two most inspirational parts of my day are whenever I'm listening to music (I think of it as a soundtrack to my imagination), and taking a shower. No matter how hard I try to be quick about it, my mind always wonders to fantasy lands as I get myself ready. I think because the outside world seems to be on pause while I'm there, but my brain never shuts off.

As mentioned in my book, Soul Purpose, there was an actual study on individuals with schizophrenia and how culture potentially played a role. In America, where I am from, many people who have mental illness are treated as though what they are going through is a problem that needs to be fixed. They receive therapy and are told that the voices they hear are not real, and often times, have a negative relationship with those voices. However, in some other cultures, people with schizophrenia who hear voices are treated with acceptance, as they believe the voices these people hear come from ancestors. Those individuals tended to have a much healthier relationship with the voices they hear. The idea was so intriguing to me. While I'm not sure that the voices they hear are truly those of the deceased, the result on those individuals was clearly a positive one. So I took that basic idea and put it in a 'what if' scenario. 'What if' the voices they hear really are from the deceased? 'What if' those around this person also believed that to be true? Before I knew it, my imagination took off, and the rest is history!
While my story does take a clear divergent path into fiction, I like to set up parallels between the schizophrenia diagnosis and the abilities of a spiritual medium. I have a few other driving points I am trying to make, though it will not be clearly obvious until my last installment (and yes! It is all planned!).
