The Iron Country is a culmination of me wanting to write an 'on the run' story and a totalitarian story akin to Orwell and Huxley. It was influenced by a few things that were going on in the media in 2012, a certain group of society seemed to be getting the blame for all of the state's problems. It just stemmed from there.

Trying to get a Tech-Noir novel published whilst writing its followup. Hit a bit of a wall with that, so I've just finished the first draft of a short horror story. Also just started on what I hope will be the first of a dark-fantasy/pulp serial.

That sense of validation at the end of several years' hard work. Other than that, I'm not sure. I do it because I enjoy it, sure, but behind that there's the sense that it's what I'm supposed to do.

I do something else for a bit. Either I work on a different writing project (it's important to have a B-project for this very eventuality), or I take a break from writing for a week. I throw myself into a different hobby, or sometimes I just do absolutely nothing for a day or two.
