Just write something. Anything.

I get absorbed into the story and look forward to returning to it.

Set goals and stick with them. For me, I set what might seem a low bar to many other writers, but it is something I can meet consistently. My goal is to write two pages a day (double-spaced). I'll write more if I feel like it, but I push to get at least those two pages in. Even when I'm struggling, two pages are manageable, and if I do it every day, it adds up.

I am creating a sci-fi trilogy. It begins with a stranger approaching a teenage girl. She is naturally mistrustful, but he knows things about her which no one else could know. When she learns from him that she is part alien, her life takes a dramatic turn. Not necessarily for the better.

I struggle with creating outlines, although I do put down some thoughts and try to have an idea how the story will end. Mostly, I get inspiration from simply sitting down and writing. Anything will do, describing the scene where I last left my characters, some of the thoughts, or the next thing I expect them to do. The ideas seem to flow from there.

This book started out as a short story, which the publisher rejected. I had ended the story at a cliffhanger moment, which the publisher pointed out didn't end the story at all. He suggested I turn it into a novel, which I did, although it took over a year. Thankfully, when I resubmitted it to him, he remembered the story and liked it.
