Debbie Slaughter The best thing about being a writer is seeing a piece that you've poured your heart into, move someone else.
Debbie Slaughter My one and only book came from 20 years of homeschooling my two sons. Years of experience, mistakes, and trying new things, led to a lot of content! My book is basically a How-To and a This is How We Did Things, kind of book.
Debbie Slaughter Right now, I'm journaling. I'm not a fiction writer, so I don't have constant stories going on in my head. I'm, what I call, an emotional writer, which means my writing comes from things I'm feeling or observing in life. When I journal, it leads to new ideas and things I want to expound on and that leads to writing more of what I love to write.
Debbie Slaughter I find that stepping away from the computer and doing something completely unrelated to writing, helps deal with writer's block. Getting active, going for a walk, or doing something fun and creative, will spark creativity in me and give me new ideas. Many times, photography sparks new ideas for me, and so I'll plan a day to take a drive and snap some new photos. Basically, just giving my brain a break, is the key.
