Kristoffer Pauly There's nothing better than to be embraced while you sleep. Unless you live alone.
Kristoffer Pauly I often get inspired by reading other people's works, and a story like "Father of Monstrosity" was born after I'd finished reading the "Fabius Bile" trilogy. I became enamoured with the idea of some kind of twisted surgeon and creator of monstrosities, and wanted to expand on this. If you look at my book and the trilogy that inspired it, they might not have much in common, but there are similar vibes and themes going between them. I ended up including cosmic horror elements on top of that, because I thought it would elevate the sense of unease permeating the universe.

For a story like "Isekai Exorcist", it was born out of my indignation that all exorcist stories were so heavily focused on action, while also taking a lot of cues from fantastic investigative horror games like Phasmophobia.
Kristoffer Pauly I make sure that there is always something exciting about the stories I write, as well as things within the narratives that I can look forward to. Since I write very chaotically without knowing what lies ahead in the next chapter, a lot of the fun also comes from the moment-to-moment impromptu discoveries of where the story is going.
Kristoffer Pauly "Isekai Exorcist", which just recently passed 200k words; and "Sovereign Monstrosity", the standalone sequel to "Father of Monstrosity".
Kristoffer Pauly Make sure you're writing for yourself. I've seen too many people burn out because they write things they assume other people will want to read, without checking if they enjoy writing it. Don't get into writing as a career if you aren't doing it for the love of writing, because the time investment vs. payoff is heavily skewed against you. It's not a sound career investment, but it's something so many of us get into because we're dreamers.
Kristoffer Pauly The flexibility of the job and being able to engage with people's imagination, as well as my own.
Kristoffer Pauly I make sure to avoid getting it by following a writing schedule that suits me and working on stories that I enjoy writing. I've found that when I don't write for myself or I write something that's too limiting, then I run the risk of Writer's Block.
