Read as many books as you can. I don't believe you can become a skilled writer if you haven't spent any time reading books. The second piece of advice I would give to aspiring writers is to join writers groups and meetups. Being in the space with other creatives is critical.

I am most creative during my quiet times. Therefore it's important for me to practice yoga and meditation. These allow me to clear out the clutter so I can let my imagination flow.

For my fiction work it is the ability to create an imaginary world in my head and watch the characters come to life on paper. In the case of my non fiction work it is hearing people say my book has changed their lives.
