It's a compilation of many ideas and inspirations. I have always been intrigued by the plight of Native Americans and how they transitioned into the white society and also the tumultuous times of slavery and their transition. My new book, 'Samuel' is a combination of these two considerations, mixed with a few twists of fate.

A huge novel I wrote a couple of years ago called Shooting Star. It's a beautiful love story but when I finished, it was a little over 150,000 words. Much too large to publish. I turned my attention then to my next novel, Samuel, which I finished and have just recently published. Now I'm returning to 'Shooting Star' and re-writing, trying to condense the story. I find the re-writing process excruciating.

Do it because you enjoy it and not for fame or fortune, because that is rare. Most all authors thinks their work is GREAT, but it's not what the author thinks about his work that brings fame or fortune, it's the readers.

Fortunately, it doesn't happen to me often, but when it does, I usually head off to the mountains to hike and camp. I will take my Kindle and read some of my favorite authors. I'm not sure if it's the other author's words or the peace I find in the woods that gives me the inspiration to continue my work at writing, but that usually solves the problem for me.
