C. Kopf Right now, I'm working on the third book in the series-- Blazing Rebellion. After that novel is done, I'll have to see if I have enough story for a fourth installment.
C. Kopf The first draft of Breaking Order took me about a year to write. Since I self published, I then went through with beta readers, rewrites, and eventually my editor for the following year. It went through about 18 drafts before the final version.
C. Kopf You need to read a lot. Reading really lets you understand what a lot of great writers can do in stories. Other than that, write what YOU want to read and what inspires YOU. A lot of people try to pressure you as you write, and there was a point in one of my drafts of Breaking Order that I let people control my actions and my writing. That sucked the soul out of the story, and eventually, I rewrote the entire thing to fit what I wanted to convey to my audience.
C. Kopf When I was young, I used to write short stories in elementary school. Eventually, I started writing more when I was bullied later in life, using the settings, characters, and plotlines as a way of escape and getting my feelings across to other people. Even as I entered high school, I continued writing because I enjoyed it so much.
C. Kopf When I get into writer's block, I listen to music. Sometimes a song will inspire me to continue writing. My last writer's block was ended by "Whatever It Takes" by Imagine Dragons. In fact, their song "Dream" inspired "Breaking Order" to begin with.
C. Kopf My favorite thing about being a writer is the way you can create voices, characters, and settings. I try to make my characters very realistic, and sometimes I feel I can just invite them over like a group of friends. I also like playing with different topics in a new, magical way. That's another thing I enjoy about writing. Writers have this voice, all different kinds of voices, that can shape the world we humans live in.
C. Kopf Right now, I'm currently writing the sequel to Breaking Order. It's dual point of view, so it should provide some interesting introspection into the world of The Regime and the other characters. It also lets me get into more character development since both protagonists have their own preferences and friends.

I'm also working on a fantasy story, but that one is nowhere near as developed yet. It'll probably be focused on after I finish Breaking Order's trilogy.
C. Kopf I got the idea for Breaking Order through the modern stigma placed away from literature and the arts. I also partially was inspired by the lengths parents take to make decisions for their kids. Calista in the story wants to follow her own path, and I think the inspiration for that comes from my own childhood and its pressures.
