L.P. Ring I've loved stories involving boarding schools ever since I read 'Tom Brown's Schooldays' as a child but it's the school in 'The Secret History' that I'd really love to visit. Just a chance to sit on the periphery of Julian Morrow's classes would be wonderful.
L.P. Ring This upon many great others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3c3XF... Check out their first album Turn on the Bright Lights. It's ace.
L.P. Ring From travelling overseas for a few weeks last summer. But that's for later. First I've got to finish my edits on Choi part 3!
L.P. Ring I often listen to music. I find that certain bands, music, albums can help me get ideas. However, once I'm in the world itself I switch to jazz (Bill Evans, Ryo Fukui) which doesn't have lyrics. I don't want the song's words impacting on the language of the story.
L.P. Ring I'm on the second draft of the third Senior Inspector Choi novel at the moment.
L.P. Ring Read, read, read. Especially in the genre you are thinking of writing in.
L.P. Ring Writing things I'd like to read. What got me started was not being able to find something I wanted to read. Now I can create my own world and let the characters take it from there.
L.P. Ring Plough through it. Just keep writing. Even bad words can be made good later on.
