L.K. Latham There are mysteries everywhere. When I want to write a mystery, I look around me. Chances are there is someone doing something "odd" or I hear a conversation that doesn't "fit" the speakers. I take the behavior or words and write why these items might not be a mystery to them.
L.K. Latham Read and write. The more I read, the more I write. The reverse is also true: The more I write, the more I read. If you’re not reading, no amount of special education or experience will help you write.
L.K. Latham This was a fun one to answer: While sitting in one of my regular coffee shops (before COVID), I developed a craving for a hot, flakey croissant. Alas, while my shop has excellent tea and coffee, it does not have good pastry. So, my mind wondered, and I took to listening to the surrounding conversations. Two tables over were four college-age students discussing their nursing homework. To my immediate left were two other students discussing politics. Later that day, as I prepared dinner, I began fitting these people and my cravings into a background. The next thing I knew, CC (from Midnight in Line and Form) sat at the table and told me about her latest adventure.
L.K. Latham I write. It sounds super simple, and it is. When the notice on my calendar says it’s time to sit down and write, that’s what I do. I don’t always write what I intend (though most of the time I do). If the words I need don’t come, I let the words flow until they feel right. At that point, I turn them into what I need to be working on.
L.K. Latham Midnight Bites: This is the next (last?) book in the series Voices of Midnight. This story follows CC and James Earl as they set up permanent residence in Austin. Luckily, they have friends to help them, and they need all the help they can get. Moving into a new house, starting a business, saving an iron-willed teen intent on becoming a vampire, and helping your lover learn to live with his new found Were Wolf senses takes a lot of planning.
L.K. Latham Writing. There is nothing like putting your own words on a page and forming those words into a story.
L.K. Latham Read and write. When you find yourself “blocked” write something. Put your butt in a chair, put your fingers on the keyboard, and type words. Don’t worry if the words form nothing you’ll ever use. The act of writing is what you need to organize your thoughts. No one gets blocked because she doesn’t know what to write, she’s blocked because she has so much to say, she’s built a damn in her mind blocking the words from flowing.
L.K. Latham My love clasped his arms around me, providing me with comfort and strength from my toils. His arms were warm, but his blood was warmer and so much more satisfying.
L.K. Latham The Hollows - Read the series over the summer, and I'm entranced with it. Ask me next week, and I may have a different answer. Seems to change with every new book I read.
