The blank page is a terrible barrier. One shortcut around it is to jot down fun or odd experiences or that come into your life and then put a spin on them. Give them a history and a future and see what kind of story it makes. Oh, and hire a good editor.

I'm a little more than half-way through book two in the Desperate Days series. It will be titled "King Jim." I have other book ideas, but my life doesn't currently allow me the luxury of multiple book project. Maybe in a few years, when my kids are older!

I have a head full of characters and events that are just waiting to cross paths in my fictional setting. The days when I can't write are frustrating. Being excited to write is a rare gift for a writer. I know it won't always be this way.

This first book in the Desperate Days series was inspired by a role-playing game I ran in 2008. The era (mid-1930s) and the setting (economically troubled and politically vulnerable Middle America) are rich territory for story ideas. Throw in some aliens and now we're having fun!
