Bryant Wieneke I wrote "Melanoma without a Cause" because when I was diagnosed, I couldn't find any patient accounts of going through the immunotherapy regimen. I thought it might help others with a similar diagnosis or who wanted to know more about immunotherapy. The idea for the book was my life, and still is.
Bryant Wieneke I'm writing my blog, which is a continuation of "Melanoma without a Cause," because I'm still going through immunotherapy treatment. I'm also working on a global terrorism suspense novel set in West Africa.
Bryant Wieneke It's not an original answer, but reading helps. So does just sitting down at the computer (or wherever) and writing. If the aspiring writer is anything like me, she or he will need to be able to gulp and rip up a page, or ten pages, or even a hundred pages. A crap detector is invaluable.
Bryant Wieneke I've always felt a need to write. Not just a desire, but a need. Writing makes me feel as if I'm doing something important, even when no one reads my work.
Bryant Wieneke My approach when I'm stuck is to go back to descriptions, rather than trying to describe action or push the plot forward. Sometimes, this can lead me back into a writing rhythm. Sometimes, I need to quick beating a dead horse and just try again the next day, and the next day after that, etc.
Bryant Wieneke The biggest mystery in my life at the moment is how the hell I ended up with metastatic melanoma. There was no obvious origin, and the doctors are befuddled. Another mystery is how immunotherapy works. I give a very superficial explanation in my book, but given my condition in May 2016, it's amazing I'm still alive.
