Martha Freeman Tell your eight-year-old daughter she has excellent taste! I'd be delighted to write more Chickadee Court books, but the publisher tells me it's all about what the market demands, and not everyone is as discerning as your daughter. (Cue quiet tears.) Maybe she would like Effie Starr Zook Has Questions, Strudel's Forever Home, Noah McNichol or my latest, Trashed? And soon The Secret Cookie Club books, which are not mysteries but are fun. Thanks for writing!
Martha Freeman My advice for aspiring writers is to finish your projects. In other words, don't start a new one until you have finished what you already started. Lots of people have half-finished books, stories, poems, essays, birthday cards, etc., lying around. Beginnings are easier than endings, and endings are easier than the muddled middle.
Martha Freeman I am working on a still untitled book ("The Further Adventures of Strudel"... maybe... what do you think?) about a dachshund who is threatened by an evil gang of stray cats even as his new owner is threatened by the neighborhood bullies. It takes place in Philadelphia and is narrated by the dachshund, whose name is Strudel.
