Hi Peter, my name is Brian and I live in Australia. I also didn't start writing until in my sixties. Recently I released a novel about my parents and their war time experiences and gave one away in a giveaway on good reads. Suffice to say she canned it and I've lost confidence of late. Ann my wife who shares in our picture has helped. How do cope with criticism?
Peter Perrin Hi. Normally I'm very sensitive to criticism and respond badly. But I have to say that in the ten weeks since my novel was published I haven't really had any criticism about it. I'm hoping that will continue, but if not I'll asses the criticism and see if I can learn from it.

Have you tried local libraries? I once served on a small town's library board. Budgetary constraints limited what special programs the librarian could offer the community. Finding a local author (a local celebrity!) willing to speak to readers, or book club members, created a great deal of excitement. The 'seasoned romance' concept you've embraced would, I believe, be a great topic.
Peter Perrin Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly the library wasn't interested. They said there was no interest in people hearing authors reading from novels, only non-fiction. Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Peter Perrin The original idea was to set the book in a care home, but I found out there were too many restrictions. One day at a retirement village however convinced me that such a location would work.

How do you get inspired to write?
Peter Perrin I write seasoned romance about mature characters. So, the exuberant and active pensioners I see at my local community centre dances inspire me with their joy of life.

What are you currently working on?
Peter Perrin I'm trying to pull together the random notes I created whilst in the final editing stage of Grace's Turmoil.

Peter Perrin Write what you want to, not what sells most in the market.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Peter Perrin For me, as a novelist, it is not just creating powerful yet believable characters but also sometimes having them become so real they do and say unplanned things.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Peter Perrin I get away from writing completely for a few hours. I either go fishing or play games on my PC or PS4.
