For Chasing Sunsets that was easy because it's based on a true story about me and my kids. So I had the illustrator draw based on the description of their age eye color and hairstyle. For my other books, I really just get a picture in my head when I imagine my story coming to life. It is also important to me to include children of all different colors and ethnicity!

Self publish. YOU ARE ENOUGH. It's a powerful and fulfilling process!

Don't sweat it. Write when the creative magic is flowing. And don't write when it isn't (but take notes for future inspiration)!

Easy answer: PARENTING. I'm deep in the trenches of daily realizing how much I need to train, teach, and inspire my children! Books are hugely helpful tools to do so! Some books are awesome. Some disappoint. So I write the ones that don't exist.

2018: I am currently working on 3 books:
In Their Skin - a book about empathy
Praying Like Jesus - a paraphrase of the Lord's Prayer in language and imagery that children can understand
Breathe and Squeeze - a book about connection and managing big emotions
2019: a book on gratefulness, a book on inner beauty, and a book on the metaphors for God

My own daily life with my six kids gives me more than enough material and inspiration for children's books! I write to answer their questions, solve our problems, and tell the stories of our adventures together. Chasing Sunsets is a true story - I have done it many times with my children. God Made Night is a compilation of all the ways Ihave explained the goodness of bedtime and nighttime to my kids.
