Steven Halbert I think finally getting a book-length work finished and published was personally fulfilling and satisfying. It's nice to know that I've written a book.
Steven Halbert Just write. Keep a journal. Blog. Just write.
Then, don't be afraid to let other people see what you've written, and listen to what they have to say.
Finally, don't be discouraged by a lack of popularity. Sometimes our callings are quiet faithfulness. We're not all called to be on a stage or read by thousands (of course, I think most of us secretly want this, but it doesn't happen for everyone . . . as I'm writing this, it hasn't happened for me).
Steven Halbert For this book, teaching. I would research on a Saturday, teach the content on a Sunday morning, and then try to capture the ensuing discussion that Sunday night.

Most other times, a quiet room and a cup of coffee helps me get in the frame of mind for writing. If the room has a view of nature or a cityscape, all the better.
Steven Halbert I honestly don't remember. As I mention in the introduction, I have been working on this book off-and-on for over five years. The original idea probably came after my daughter was born, and I was blown away by the parallels between parenting and theology. But then I just couldn't seem to wrap my head around trying to cover the relationships of child, marriage, sibling, and parent in one book. It wasn't until I started teaching it that things started to gel a little more.
Steven Halbert LOL! Taking a break. I'm currently trying to figure out what to do next, but since I just finished my book two weeks ago, I might take a short break. I do keep a notebook of ideas, so I'm trying to decide what to work on next. Although, given the feedback I've received for the book, the low hanging fruit may be a study guide . . . even though I'd really like to move on, I must agree, the book begs for a study guide.
Steven Halbert Honestly, I chose to just write something. I knew that I was going to edit the book, so when writer's block happened, I just tried to keep going. When it was really bad, I used the time I set aside for writing to focus on something else for the book (fonts, cover design, marketing, etc.).
