An Unlikely Company came from my very first time DMing (being a Dungeon Master or Game Master) for a Pathfinder campaign. I used the world I had been working on for a few years through short stories and such, and wrote a large quest that my friends could take their characters through. None of my friends had ever played before, so I helped each of them create their characters, which also meant those characters were heavily my creation as well. As we played, I worked those characters, the world they traveled through, and my overall story into what eventually became The NetherGate Trilogy.

Specifically, music. Listening to different types of music is the best way to get ideas flowing, for me. Rock, movie soundtracks, anime soundtracks, video game music, instrumental, and much more. The other big inspiration is being a DM (Dungeon Master) for D&D games. It allows me to really flex my creative muscles in story creation and telling. Obviously, other stories, be they in movies, TV, games, or other books are also an inspiration, which is why I love absorbing as much as I can.

Book 2 of The NetherGate Trilogy, a gothic/fantasy inspired by Frankenstein, a horror/fantasy, a post-apocalyptic samurai novel, a modern urban/fantasy story...and about 12 other ideas that are constantly swirling around in my head. I'm trying to keep NetherGate Book 2 at the top of that list, though.

This may sound cliche, but most importantly...WRITE! Start writing. You will be surprised how much of everything else starts to fall into place once you start writing ON A REGULAR BASIS. Some other advice: Read. Read a lot, and read different types of stories. Talk to other writers. Get other writers or people who love to read to check out your stuff and talk to you about it. Never stop learning about writing and storytelling.

Simply put, getting to tell the stories you have always wanted to tell.

Writer's block can be a terrible thing to endure, but I've always been under the impression that most writer's block can be overcome by simply sitting down and writing. Yes, there are countless times that I will sit and stare at my screen, just waiting for the story to fix itself. And taking a step away, watching some netflix, reading a book, or playing a game can help a bit. Maybe you are just overwhelmed or mentally exhausted. However, I've always beat writer's block by just powering through and writing. Remember, you can always come back and edit, so don't worry about if pushing forward doesn't look the best.
