Mariam Parra Untold was a story that my friends from junior high and I made up together. It was a story about us, so there are a lot of things in that book that actually happened! Then there are other things that I made up to have an actual plot and not just pages of three friends having fun.

But most of my ideas come from dreams. I have a Dream Diary since I was in high school. I thought this was kind of odd, until I realized that a lot of writers also get inspired from their dreams.

Sometimes I dream of a character, or bits and pieces of a story.
Mariam Parra I listen to music.

Depending of the mood of the scene I'm writing, I select music that makes me have that kind of feeling.

I also stare at at the ceiling or empty spaces a lot, haha.
Mariam Parra I start writing something else, but don't skip writing.

There was a day I had this particular scene in my mind. I had been thinking about it all day and really wanted to write it, but when I sat down to do so, I realized it didn't really fit any of the characters of my book. So instead I made up new characters on the spot and wrote the scene. I didn't stop to worry about the details, the important part was getting the scene out of my mind so I could go back to concentrating on the other story.

Other days I really don't have anything on my mind, so I use those days to work on edits or translations, but no matter what, I don't skip the times I set aside to write.
