Iain M Banks' Culture. I'd hang out on one of the planet sized Obital and design my own mountains and fiords (I'm a NZer that's how we spell them) then string the most amazing zip-line running across them that ends up in a whisky bar with a view of a planetary nebula. Because that's what you can do as a member of The Culture. It's basically nerdvana.

It started with an image from a Rudy Rucker novel that I just outright stole, and then I wondered who those people might be, where they came from, their place in society, and what implications there might be for our real world.
So I set a fantastic element within the real world, real events, and real politics - and used it as a commentary on our contemporary milieu. And I drew the implication that this might be true, or if it is not then there are players in world affairs that might act is an analogous manner.

What if... and then... but that would mean... and she must... oh no.. that's horrific.. why would they do that... phew that was close... so the next thing... and the next...
Everything is motivated by the actions and reactions of characters and they must be logically involved and not able to walk away. Or they try and fail to escape the clutches of my plot.

The next Dark stories. There is a lot to tell about Zanna, she is the outsider and it is through her insights and actions that the "ancien regime" will be disrupted. But also Osaka - a city with a dark heart of its own, but that would take things at a tangent so it lies in my thoughts but not on the page yet.

I've never experienced writer's block. I just start writing and words flow. There are so many of them and not enough time to get them out. I typically write 2000 words a day.
But I procrastinate - oh boy, do I what. I know the remedy here too though - make it a habit.
