I'm currently working on what I envision as a multi-book space opera series that takes place (mostly) in an alternate universe. At the same time, I have a few short stories I'm also editing for submission.

I'm glad you enjoyed reading Delphys Rising!
I'd be happy to speak at one of your gatherings in 2020. The February 12 date would work well for me. Feel free to contact me with details at kipwrites@hotmail.com.
Thank you for the opportunity.

Hi Chris!
First, thank you so much for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed Wendall's Lullaby and hope Delphys Rising also meets with your approval.
I am definitely available to speak to groups--I'm especially good in smaller groups like book clubs. I don't charge anything to speak, but do bring a few of my books along for sale/signing if that is acceptable.
That said, I'm based in Dunedin, FL, so driving within an hour or so of there wouldn't be an issue. If I needed to travel farther, we could talk about a small charge for mileage/gas.
Just let me know. I'd be pretty excited about this ;-)

I started Wendall's Lullaby just over 10 years ago and, honestly, I can't remember the moment of inspiration! But, I've had a lifelong interest in dolphins, dolphin communication, marine biology and the environment. I had some past involvement as a volunteer in marine mammal rescue, recovery and rehabilitation at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, FL.
For the follow-up to Wendall's Lullaby, I'm re-reading some of the works of Dr. John C. Lily--"inventor" of the sensory depravation tank and somewhat controversial dolphin researcher.

I love learning and have a variety of eclectic interests. Writing allows me to justify researching some of the more esoteric interests in depth.

I share some ideas with my wife--sometimes she can help move along my thoughts.
I read more. I watch a movie. I stare at my cats while they sleep. I pace around the house.
I work out. Sometimes my best ideas come to me while I'm training out on the Gulf of Mexico in my surf ski (where I have no pen or paper) or while I'm out in the woods mountain biking. Often, I'll repeat the ideas that come to me in those situations over and over and over in my mind like a mantra--until I can get back to my vehicle and the notebook typically kept in my glove compartment.
I brainstorm in my journal. I'll take a word or phrase from a book or article, write it at the top of a page and then see where it takes me. I'm not expecting anything remotely related to what I may actually be writing, but rather to just tap into the creativity that may have recently ebbed.

Read. Read books. Read newspapers. Read magazines. Read in the genre in which you are writing.
Keep a journal. A journal is the ideal place to take note of story, character and scene ideas; it's a place to run with ideas--sketching out a variety of paths. Remember, a journal is for "informal" writing--don't get hung up on punctuation, spelling, grammar or anything structural (unless that is what you are exploring). Focus on letting your ideas run free across the page.
Write to please yourself.
