i have so much to say and i just really really wish we can be friends!! you honestly inspire me and so many other ppl. u have moved past everything that life has thrown at u and showed the world the true meaning behind the words "make your own life" u did that without forgetting the truths that have shaped u and without pretending that ur past isnt yours and i love that. can we be friends??? Hey Shilpa, I do have something to ask. Why did you choose to debut with a memoir while you could easily make things happen with a comfortable fiction?
Shilpa Raj Hi Alok, personally I am moved by the real stories of people whose triumph over adversity inspires me. Real life, in its rawest form, touches my heart and as a writer I always felt drawn to it as a subject.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Shilpa Raj I've always been a lover of stories on human experiences. During my final year in high school, I began to unearth my family's past. In the process of discovering my roots, I realized the complexities of my own life, shuttling between the two worlds I was living in -- my village with its ancient traditions and my boarding school where I was being brought up with a modern outlook. I felt that this story needed to be told as it speaks for not just me but all my schoolmates who come from very poor families.
