I am always inspired by my patients. I never write about a specific patient. But, their bravery and humor and persistence in the face of adversity always inspires me.
I try to meditate 20 minutes per day and find that my creativity seems to increase when I can quite my mind.

My only published novel is The Big Free and it comes out in paperback in January. (available on eReaders now)
I am a urologist and my medical training was exciting , but often grueling.
I wrote stories about my time in New Orleans at Charity Hospital. For 20 years, I had mailed the stories to one of my mentors.( the world famous trauma surgeon, Dr. Norman McSwain)
I wrote the stories to help me heal from the many painful and often funny experiences with patients.
Dr. McSwain had been encouraging me for years to write a novel using the themes of my stories. He became quite insistent in 2015. I said, "OK, I will write the books if I can use your name for the professor in the books."
He said, "I'd be honored."
And, I started writing the book that same day.
So, my ideas come from my experiences as a surgeon.

I am currently marketing The Big Free and learning about the business side of selling a novel.
Because the marketing of a book is very different than the creation of a book, it is taking much of my "free" time.
So, I have ideas flowing for the second installment in the life of Dr. Elizabeth Roberts (my protagonist) and I have an outline for three more books.

Make a commitment to write.
Set a date to start and find the time to do it.
I write at four in the morning. My house is quiet and everyone else is still asleep. I am most creative when I first get up.
As soon as I committed the time and the place to writing, everything flowed.

I greatly enjoy creating characters and having them do all kinds of interesting things. Ideas come to me all the time. I am covered in "sticky notes" while trying to do my day job and my family duties and jot down my ideas as they come.

I have never had "writer's block".
My problem is the editing part.
I hate the long, grueling process of correcting my mistakes!
