I think if I could go to any fictional book world I would head to Rivendell in Middle-earth. Once I arrived I would wander in awe of the beauty and tranquility of all the surroundings.

The first three books I want to read this summer are:
1) The Fated Sky (Transgressor Trilogy #1) by E.M. Swift-Hook
2) Transient by Zachry Wheeler
3) The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Past that we'll see where my whimsy leads me.

I deal with writer's block by writing. Some days I sit and stare at the blank screen and the words don't come initially. When that happens I just start writing something, anything down and before long I'm into the flow.

The best thing about being a writer is the complete freedom to let your creativity run wild. I can write at my desk, in my housecoat, at 2 o'clock in the morning or I can take my laptop outside to enjoy the weather. I can write what I want, when I want, and how I want.

My advice would be to sit your butt in the chair and get the words down. Each word gets you closer to your goal and each revision makes your work better. This is definitely a marathon instead of a sprint and one day you'll look up to see the glorious finish line, but only if you kept putting one foot in front of the other. Oh, and that finish line, feels pretty sweet!

Reading a great story always fires me up to want to achieve the same thing - writing a story that matters. When you read an intelligent, well crafted story that leaves you desperate for more, that's what inspires me to get writing.

My kids are adventurous boys and, after watching meteorite shows on tv, wanted to find a meteorite with their metal detector. As long as they're finding something that beeps they're having fun but their goal was a meteorite. My sci fi brain started wondering about a rock from space and where that could lead a story. What if there was more to this rock from space than just a rock. Hmm. And from that moment on a story was born.
