David L. Faucheux She thought the purring bundle of joy that she'd gotten at the animal shelter was a domesticated kitty; alas, it grew and grew -- munch!
David L. Faucheux Oh, I love this one! I think it's the flexibility of work and freedom to create. You are working solo and trying to put something out there that somehow reflects yourself in someway. I like that and that there is a possibility of a career. Being totally blind, I had always been told working very hard in high school and college was the best preparation to be successful in life. But somehow I never had a career though I did obtain an MLIS in hopes of becoming a librarian and prior to that worked as a braille instructor and a medical transcriptionist.
David L. Faucheux Well, because I was working on a journal, I just had to put something down each day. I knew I'd reread and edit later. But if it had been another genre, I might have had to stop, read something for a bit, and try again.
David L. Faucheux Read, Read, Read! Write, Write, Write
! Consider taking a creative writing class. I understand there are MFA programs; but as I am not an academic, I can't speake to the usefulness of these programs in building a career.
David L. Faucheux I have not started a new project yet. I am tentatively thinking about telling the story of an ancestor of mine who came to Louisiana in 1779.
David L. Faucheux Inspiration comes fleetingly, quickly, and can vanish like yesterdays dreams. When I get a mental nibble, I try to jot down the thoughts or observations. I don't always do it and later have regrets. Writing does not come easily for me. As a teen, I had the idea of being that kind of writer the Beatles sang about in their "Paperback Writer." But I can't. Alas, and it'd be a cool jobfor a blind person. Lots of flex time, self-employed, good money, and no office politics.
David L. Faucheux As I explain in my introduction, a friend asked me to review her book and I did. I thought that I could also write something in a similar style.
