Creating new worlds to explore and new character to get to know and then getting to share those worlds and characters with others. For me, being a writer is having an endlessly fascinating playground, an unlimited creative toolbox to draw from with every color and sound and texture you ever knew, plus the ones you invent. Being the master of your own creation and never having to bow to anyone else's sovereignty.

I am working on a novel, my first.

I have multiple tactics, and choose depending on my energy and time available. Sometimes I get up and get active: go for a walk, putter around the house, wander around my yard. I also have some exercises that can help, like 'word pile' where I write down words for a minute or two that relate to the part of my story I'm feeling stuck on. Sometimes that helps unblock me. And other times, if I'm blocked on one part of the story, I'll work on another part. I am not a strictly linear writer.
