My publisher mentioned a theme for her latest anthology, and that got me off and running with a story idea. Otherwise, it's whatever idea I have that interests me most at the time.

Ideas just pop into my head and I write them down. Pretty soon, I have a story. This sounds simplistic, but it really is what happens. My brain is constantly generating ideas, which sometimes causes me to do weird things like talk to myself while in the grocery store or at the traffic light Who said writers were weird?.

Just keep writing and submitting. Rejections hurt, but they're also a testament to the fact that you're putting yourself out there.

Being transported into an entirely different world. It's great escapism. I love losing myself in my stories. On the published side, it's having people tell you they loved your story. That is the best feeling, ever. Never gets old.

If I'm not feeling particularly creative, I don't try to write. I do something different, like hiking, chores, reading, vegging in front of the TV, or getting together with friends. Basically, anything else but writing. Then, if the urge to write doesn't come back in a few days, I force myself to sit down and just do it.

It was such a nice surprise to see your question this morning. Okay, I would recommend that you start with my story, "Antipastdead" in the NOIR AT THE SALAD BAR anthology. Then, if you like fantasy, maybe read my story, "Beauty and the Beast: The Beast Within" in the AFTER THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER anthology If you like horror, then maybe read "No Experience Necessary" in THE BACCHANAL collection, followed by "Through A World, Darkly" in the MONSTERS VS. ZOMBIES anthology. On my website, there are two sci-fi stories that are available to read online, which I won awards for. Please feel free to do so if you like sci-fi.
I have three more stories being published between now and December: a crime story, a fantasy, and a horror story, which I will add to my Goodreads profile as they become available.
