There's always something else to be done rather than banging your head against any particular problem. I tend to find workarounds wherever I can. So when I get stuck, I can drop the piece and instead spellcheck another piece. Or review my references/bibliography. Or update my website. Or my Goodreads profile! there's always something - the key is not to let frustration get the better of you and waste energy and productivity!

That's easy. Pick a social media site and try to read it. Vast amounts of psychological material waiting to be understood everywhere you turn. Finding the scientific research to explain it is a bit trickier, but online is endlessly fascinating!

It actually developed out of a paper I wrote for The Psychologist (which you can read here (https://thepsychologist.bps.org.uk/vo...). When writing that paper, I simply wanted to summarise the psychological research on social media. But when it was finished, I realised that I had to cut out a tonne of material to make the word count. Afterwards, I was surprised to discover that no-one had written the 'psychology of social media' already, and very quickly I had a book proposal written.
