Nelle Lewis Hi and thank you so much! The third book is in draft now, and I anticipate releasing it near June 2021. So stoked to hear you like a little romance with your mystery - same here!

Thanks for taking the time for this great note; hope you and your family are safe and healthy and your reading list is robust!

Nelle Lewis Thank you so much, Debi! You've made my week. My goal with this series from the beginning has been to bring a smile, laugh, giggle, and brief get-a-way for those reading it. To hear that you shared Kindle page pics with your friend has me absolutely tickled!
Thank you for your great review as well, and I can't wait to see what you think of the second book. I'm working feverishly on the third book, out this Fall, and your feedback will help make the series better and better. Thanks again and happy reading!
Nelle Lewis The Sam Carter Mystery series was born from a combination of ideas. I wanted to set a series inside Cleveland, Ohio. I lived in Ohio for nearly two decades and many of my deepest-rooted friendships and memories live there. I want to share how wonderful the people are. I also wanted a strong protagonist who, like so many of us, shoot out of life's cannon with one plan and land somewhere entirely apart from where they aimed. I'm fascinated with the ways in which people aim and re-aim their lives, and what they learn about themselves along the way. Sam is my vehicle for exploring that fascination and, hopefully, for making a connection with readers who can relate to that journey. I set all of that into a comedic mystery backdrop because I love the genre as a reader, and want to put more of it out into the universe.
Nelle Lewis This is a difficult question in that if I waited to write until I was inspired, I would be writing in my sleep and staring at a laptop by day. Inspiration for what I write, though, comes from everywhere. It can come from a conversation I overhear while waiting to renew my driver's license, or an article in a paper, or something that happened to a friend, or something ridiculously random that I see in the street, on a plane, or in the news.
Nelle Lewis I'm working on the second volume of the Sam Carter Mystery series, set in Cleveland. I'm also working on a fictionalized memoir, and a satirical novel centered around my previous professional life.
Nelle Lewis Know that you will be filled with self-doubt, sometimes to the point that you feel like it's going to consume you. You'll push past that feeling, but the doubt comes back again and again-stronger-and each time you wonder if it's the end for you. Know that it is never the end. The doubt never stops, but it won't stop you, either. Keep going.
Nelle Lewis When you take a seedling of an idea and it flourishes into something on paper that is beyond anything you set it out to be. And then, for a reader to tell you it struck something for them, whether it be their personal situation or their funny bone. It's magical.
Nelle Lewis Usually with a good deal of wall kicking, crying, ceiling-staring, laundry washing, nail polishing, and eventually, just writing incredibly awful strings of words until I discover a thread that pulls me out of the abyss and gets me going again. Walks help, too.
