The inspiration is the seed of the idea and the joy that comes when the characters take a life and a direction of their own. It is a kind of magic that doesn't happen when I merely think about what to write. It only occurs when I am actually writing.

I have a notebook of novel ideas that I have collected over a number of years and review it for inspiration. "Saint Jim" was an idea listed there. My second novel, "Dream Across This Mortal Coil" was the same. My third novel in progress was organically inspired by my son who is on the autistic spectrum.
