It's definitely a standalone. My plans to make a series out of it are on hold for now.

By preventing it. It sounds silly, but the best way to deal with it is to steer clear of it. I do this by sticking to a manageable daily word count, and spending as much time reading as I do writing. So many writers don't read, and it sucks because you can only pull creativity out of a well that is full of it.

Getting feedback! It doesn't matter the form, although I do prefer reviews ;) As a writer, you spend months writing in isolation. Seeing that people are resonating with something you poured your heart and soul into, is just the best reward ever!

I'm still an aspiring writer myself, but I will pass on the lovely advice I've gotten from Zoe Chant: "Write and publish consistently. The reason most people don't succeed is that they publish one or two or three books, don't do as well as they hoped, and then give up. You need to keep going to build an audience."

A free novella that I look forward to giving away! It's a prequel story to my Shadow Squad series but is a complete standalone romance.

I think about how badly I want to quit my job. Just kidding! Maybe...
I get inspired by doing some brainstorming. Yep. A good couple of minutes coming up with a few good ideas gets me excited about what I'm working on. If that doesn't work, reading through ideas I have for another series helps motivate me to finish what I'm working on fast so that I can get to the good stuff ;) It's always sunnier on the other side of the street. Le sigh.

I got the idea from a summer I spent reading tonnes of PNR! That's the great thing about being a writer. You can be immersed in a genre and take from it while giving back to it :)
