From a short story scifi/fantasy magazine. They listed that they wanted beautiful science fiction, or something like that, but no time travel, space marines, zombies, vampires, easy FTL travel I believe and a couple other things. So I decided to write a short story that included all those things. The story got rejected with a note that I wasn't very funny. The short story eventually became "Time to Burn."
