Ooh good question. Ray Bradbury is a perpetual favorite, I love his short stories for their quiet creepiness. I have also been working my way through Minka Kent's back catalogue of domestic thrillers.

The novel I am currently querying came from seeing an article about a person who disappeared in the forest, the only thing authorities found was an empty tent. No sings of struggle, just empty. There is no tent in my story, but there is a forest and a woman on the run.

Sometimes the most random things inspire me. But I love to read articles about mysterious cases ( disappearances, odd occurrences etc) to spark my brain into action. I often can;t know ahead of times if it will go in a thriller or horror direction, so I try to be open to anything!
