Sarah Purdue I was thinking about a character who had previously had terrible luck on the romance front and then suddenly met the 'perfect' man. In itself that wouldn't be a very exciting book but then I had the idea that perhaps there was a reason why she couldn't be with said perfect man and 'Successfully Single' was born.

Amelia Brown, my main character has finally turned her romantic failures in to something positive, firstly by writing a blog which grows in success until she is offered a publishing contract to write a book. It's her dream come true, but there is one catch, she must stay single for a whole year as part of her contract. That should be easy, shouldn't it? But of course the universe has other ideas!
Sarah Purdue I have a plan! I've tried waiting for inspiration to strike and find it doesn't very often. Instead I set myself a word count, sometimes modest, and sit down and keep writing until I hit the word count. Sometimes its quick, sometimes it takes ages. I try not to give up before I've hit my target. Sometimes the writing is good, sometimes it needs a lot of work but its a lot easier to edit something you have written badly than to edit a blank page!
Sarah Purdue I've just finished the final draft of my first ebook, 'Successfully Single' which I am about to send of to be formatted. So my next big project is the sequel. I'm looking forward to getting back to the characters and finding out what they get up to next!
Sarah Purdue Make time to write. It may sound like an obvious thing but it is so important. When I first started writing I spent a lot of time reading about how to write and whilst many of those books were helpful, the best way to learn the craft is to actually write!

Set yourself some targets, start small and hit those targets. Then set yourself slightly more challenging targets! Never give up. The more you right, the more you will learn about writing. And make sure that what you are writing excites you. Don't try and copy the latest big thing, aim to be the next big thing!
Sarah Purdue What's not to love about being able to make things up for a living?! I love creating stories and characters. You can put your characters through a lot, but ultimately you can decide what happens to them. I love getting lost in a new world that I've created and its the perfect escape from real life!
Sarah Purdue I've actually written a blog entry about this!
